UK & India: United Breweries chairman acquires Whyte & Mackay for Ј595 mil
Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya, chairman of United Breweries, on Wednesday confirmed the acquisition of privately held Glasgow distiller Whyte & Mackay for Ј595m, Financial Times published May 16.
Mr Mallya, a flamboyant entrepreneur who is considered India's equivalent to Sir Richard Branson (he owns the Kingfisher airline and beer brand), has been negotiating the purchase of W&M on behalf of UB for more than six months.
