UK & India: UB acquires Whyte & Mackay for 595 mil pounds
The United Breweries Group (UB) has acquired the Glasgow-based Scotch major Whyte & Mackay for 595 million (Rs4.819 crore), according to The Financial Times Limited, July 5.
The acquisition was carried out through UB's United Spirits Limited, making it the second largest liquor company. Whyte & Macay is the world's fourth largest Scotch maker and is now a 100 percent subsidiary of the UB Group.
Apart from increased revenue opportunities, UB will have a portfolio of internationally recognized brands. These can also be introduced into the Indian market.
