The British brewing force, Scottish & Newcastle, confirmed on June 24 that it had completed the acquisition of the Portuguese brewer, Sociedade Central de Cervejas, and the mineral water company, Sociedade da Agua de Luso. The company has not revealed any other details.

S&N is one of Europe’s leading brewers and in the top 10 by sales volume in the world. It is part of the FTSE 100 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. Its headquarters are in Edinburgh. S&N’s business interests are international brewing, offering leading brands in a number of European markets and beyond; and retailing, where it is one of Britain’s leading and best performing pub, bar and restaurant operators. In the year 2001-2 it achieved turnover of £4.2 billion and an operating profit of £539 million.
