Australia: Cost of beer goes up in South Australia
Brewery news

The price of tap beer could cost more, as the recommended price has gone up, The Advertiser reported February 1.

Tap beer in South Australian hotels, could rise as much as nine cents for a schooner (285ml), 13 cents for a pint (425ml) and six cents for a butcher (200ml).

The rise is due to the effect of CPI (Consumer Price Index) adjustments to excise, a Federal Government tax on alcohol in beer and spirits applied every six months in February and August.

The prices are a guide only as hotels, bottle shops, clubs and restaurants are free to charge whatever price they choose for alcohol.

Recommended prices for spirits are expected later this month.
