Canada: Canada's Liberal Party calls Wheat Board changes undemocratic
Canada's main opposition Liberal Party said it introduced legislation to restore ``democracy'' to the Canadian Wheat Board, a farmer-controlled monopoly marketer of western Canadian wheat and barley, Bloomberg reported January 31.
Liberal House Leader Ralph Goodale said changes to the board since Prime Minister Stephen Harper came to power two years ago are undemocratic and diminish farmers' control. Goodale spoke at a news conference in Ottawa with Wayne Easter, the party's agriculture critic, and party lawmaker Raymond Simard, who introduced the bill.
