India: Barley exports forecast at 100,000 tonnes in 2009/2010
India's barley exports in the year ending March 2010 is estimated at 100,000 tonnes on higher supply from rival Ukraine, Reuters cited an industry official on April, 21.
“India may export about 100,000 tonnes of barley in 2009/10, with Ukraine snatching the lost market back from India," Manoj Gupta, director, Northern India Foodgrain Association, said.
"Malt-making industry consumption (of barley) is likely to rise by 10 percent to 550,000 tonnes in 2009/10," said Gupta.
Gupta said there is surprise interest from feedmakers for barley compared with no demand in the previous year.
Demand from domestic feed makers may rise to 250,000 tonnes as it's one of the cheapest among all grain feeds now.
