Germany: The price of a pint has gone up again for Oktoberfest 2009
Brewery news

Munich City Council has officially announced a price increase of 3.8% from last year, with the average cost of one litre of beer 8.44 Euros.

The news will come as a blow to fans of the annual beer fest, with prices already hiked up an extra 5% in 2008. 6 million litres of Bavarian beer are drunk at the festival every year, believed to be the best in the world for its ‘pure’ mix of hops, barley and water.

Oktoberfest, the beer festival held in Munich, Germany, starts on 19 September. Oktoberfest started in 1810 with ongoing festivities to celebrate the wedding of Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildenburghausen.

More than 6 million people attend the Oktoberfest each year and a staggering 20 million bottles of beer are consumed.

This year a litre of beer will cost between 8,30 € and 8,60 € and there’ll be a wide range to choose from - Augustiner, Paulaner, Spaten-Franziskaner, Löwenbräu, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu – and it’ll be available pretty much all day, every day of the festival.
