Ukrainian barley export could reach the volumes of 400-600 thousand tonnes in 2003, the minister of agrarian policy, S. Rijuk, announced at a press conference on October 3. In 2002 year Ukraine exported 2.9 million tonnes of barley, while it imported 20 thousand tonnes. S. Rijuk said that the barley export would decrease this year because of its low quality. Moreover, Ukraine will have to import barley, as local barley doesn’t suit the brewers.
