South Africa: Malting barley production forecast increased
The 2009 production forecast for malting barley increased to 223,870 tons, which is 3250 tons or 1.47% higher than the previous forecast of 220,620 tons, the South African Crop Estimates Committee announced on December, 17.
The estimate for the area planted to barley remained unchanged at 74,760 hectares, the CEC said.
The expected yield has been set at 2.99 tons per hectare.
