Tasmania: Hops harvest looking very promising
The Tasmanian hops harvest has started on a high note, buoyed by good seasonal conditions and expected record yields, ABC posted on March, 16.
Hop Products Australia, a member of one of the world’s leading hops suppliers Barth Haas Group, has about 370 hectares of hops in Victoria and Tasmania and has concentrated on growing new aroma varieties to break into a premium global market.
“An increase in the number of bittering compounds in the hops is encouraging,” managing director Tim Lord said.
"This year the alpha acid levels are looking much higher than we've seen in recent years, so that, combined with a larger physical yield, means that we certainly have high expectations that we're going to have a pretty good season this season," he added.
