Belarus: Government-regulated malting barley prices are too high
Barley news

Director of Brestskoye Pivo brewery Oleg Kisel believes that malting barley must be sold in Belarus at the common rate, TUT.by communicated on May, 6.

“We don’t want any subsidies, we don’t want extremely low prices. The prices should depend on the market situation. Why should we buy barley at prices higher than the global market level?” he said.

According to Mr. Kisel, the price of malt in Belarus is twice as high as that in Russia. This fact takes its toll on the price of beer, which, in his opinion, is rather expensive in Belarus.

The brewery has its own malthouse with a production capacity of 6.6 thousand tonnes. In 2009, the facility produced 4.2 thousand tonnes of malt for its own consumption.

Malting barley prices in Belarus are regulated by the government.
