Germany: Zero-alcohol and wheat beer enjoy higher sales but Pils still leads the market in 2010
According to data by the German Brewers Association, zero-alcohol beer enjoyed last year a sales increase of 12.9%, whereas sales of Berliner Weisse grew by 14.8%.
Pils remained the nation’s most popular beer with a market share of 55.1% (- 0.2% vs. 2009).
German brewers exported in 2010 9.8% of their total production (-3.3%), of which the largest shares held by wheat beer (7.9%, +0.5% versus 2009), beer mixes (6.5%, +0.7%), light (4.5%, 0.2%), zero-alcohol beer (3.7%, +12.9%).
Beer in 0.5l bottles still hold the largest share of the market, at 74.8% (-1.1% from the previous year). Bottles of 0.33l had a share of 19.9% last year (+0.6%), 0.5l PET bottles 2.2%, 0.5l cans 1.9%.
