Saudi Arabia: World’s largest importer of feed barley purchases 1.5 mln tonnes in April
The Saudis are the largest importers of feed barley in the world, up to 7.5 mln tonnes per annum, their actions have a major influence on markets.
Following internal disputes between the administration and the trade the exclusive job of imports was given to one company. According to industry sources, this company has purchased 1.5 mln tonnes in April, optional origin, from the known EU and Russian exporters.
Origin of the barley is predominantly the EU, a large part from Germany, only small quantities from Australia and Canada. Prices were reported down to US$ 280,-, but early May levels were above US$ 300,- CFR Saudi ports.
