Ukraine: Winter barley yields increase to 2.87 t/ha this year
Ukraine’s winter barley yields increased 15 percent from a year earlier and wheat yields are up 22 percent, the Agriculture Ministry said on July, 1.
The winter barley yield rose to an average 2.87 tons a hectare (2.47 acres) since the harvest began about June 20 from 2.49 tons in the same period last year, Agriculture Ministry said.
Winter wheat yields averaged 3.3 tons a hectare, up from 2.7 tons, over the same period, it said.
Farmers harvested 1 million tons of grain by the end of the month, with 983,000 tons of winter barley.
Barley accounted for 2.7 million tons of the total grain exports, the group said.
Ukraine’s grain harvest was 39 million tons after hot and dry weather reduced yields. The Government restricted outbound shipments of wheat, corn and barley for around seven months. Ukraine’s grain exports are taxed from the 1st of July.
