UK: Barley and wheat usage for brewing, malting and distilling increases in July 2011
UK brewers, maltsters and distillers total wheat usage was 42 thousand tonnes in July 2011, up 19% from the same month last year, DEFRA reported on September, 8.
Total barley usage was 138 thousand tonnes, up 8%.
In 2010/11, British brewers, distillers and maltsters used 1.75 mln tonnes of barley, up 8.8% from 2009/10 (1.61 mln tonnes) and above the 5 year average of 1.70 mln tonnes.
Total wheat usage for malting, brewing and distilling increased by 0.7% last year to 531 thousand tonnes.
