Ukraine: Ukraine to be world’s No. 1 barley exporter in 2011/12 – Ministry of Agriculture
Ukraine will be the leader in the export of barley to international markets in the 2011-2012 marketing year (July-June), according to Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk.
"This year every fifth tonne of barley, every eighth tonne of corn and every twelfth tonne of wheat that will be sold in the world will be of Ukrainian origin," the ministry's press service reported on October, 19, citing Prysiazhniuk.
The minister also said that in exports of barley, Ukraine is the world leader, for corn it is in third position, and for wheat it is in eighth position.
Prysiazhniuk said that this year Ukraine expects a record harvest of grain of 53 million tonnes, which will allow it to export around 27 million tonnes of grain.
As reported, as of October 17, 2011, Ukraine exported 3.84 million tonnes of grain: 1.67 million tonnes of barley, 1.625 million tonnes of wheat, 530,000 tonnes of rapeseeds and 500,000 tonnes of corn.
