Canada, ON: Beau's All Natural Brewing Co. to stop its door-to-door beer delivery

An Ottawa-area brewery will no longer deliver beer door-to-door after a complaint from another unnamed brewery, CBC News reported on November, 24.

Steve Beauchesne, who co-owns Beau's All Natural Brewing Co. in Vankleek Hill, south of Ottawa, wrote a blog post on November, 24 detailing the shutdown.

He said the home delivery service started on November, 24 and was shut down by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario hours after it started.

The brewery said it had obtained a home delivery licence for the business venture but blamed the omission of a word in delivery regulations for the complaint. The omission left the impression home delivery could only be performed by the Beer Store or LCBO, but not any individual brewery.

"The complaint has nothing to do with the service or the fact that at-risk youth were involved, but over a technicality involving what I believe to be a typo in the regulations around home beer delivery services," Beauchesne wrote.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission did not release any information on the decision, however.

The original plan included a team effort with Operation Come Home, an agency that runs a resource and program centre for homeless youth, where at-risk youth would deliver the beer for a fee. That money would then go to a shelter.

Operation Come Home involves businesses that help Ottawa's young homeless residents earn money.

Beauchesne said he was upset another brewery sparked the cancellation, but added he will try other avenues for home delivery.

"We will find another way to get beer to our customers and we won't stop trying to help our community," he wrote.
