France: Carlsberg’s Kronenbourg to build new technical development centre
Carlsberg-owned Brasseries Kronenbourg is to invest EUR17 mln (US$22.3 mln) in the construction of a technical development centre at its site in Obernai, in eastern France.
The new R&D facility, to be built over the next three years, will specialise in the development of new beers and packaging. It will be recognised as a competence centre at European level within the Carlsberg group, Kronenbourg's vice-president, Jean Hansmaennel, said in an interview on February, 6.
Kronenbourg R&D staff will be transferred from a site in Strasbourg to Obernai. The French brewer already has an on-going investment programme totalling EUR11 mln at Obernai, to construct a new administrative centre by the end of 2012.
Separately, Kronenbourg said it would cut 37 jobs across IT, billing and human resources out of a total workforce of 1,200.
