Canada, ON: Big Rig Kitchen & Brewery expected to open in late May in Ottawa
Brewery news

Ottawa Senators defenceman Chris Phillips is lending his “Big Rig” nickname to a new brewery and restaurant opening soon in the city, Omnivore’s Ottawa, the blog written for the Ottawa Citizen by food and drink writer Ron Eade, reports.

Big Rig Kitchen & Brewery is being opened by Phillips along with partners Pierre Cleroux (former partner in the Clocktower Brewpub chain), Lon Ladell (formerly of Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub in Victoria), and Jimmy Zourntos & Angelis Koutsos (both restaurateurs in Ottawa).

The brewery will be launching with six beers, including the flagship Big Rig Brew (a light golden ale) and five other beers – an IPA, a brown ale, a red ale, a chocolate stout, and a hefeweizen – which will all be named via a contest on the Big Rig Facebook page. The Big Rig beers will be available on draught at the restaurant, and in six-packs and growlers to take home, with LCBO distribution being planned for the future. There will also be other craft beers available on guest taps, and several major brands in bottles.

In the restaurant side, the plan is to feature “back-to-basics, home-made comfort food”, including pizza, sandwiches, burgers, pot pies, stews and steaks, with everything made from scratch whenever possible.

Big Rig Kitchen & Brewery is expected to open in late May at the corner of Iris Street and Greenbank Road in Ottawa.
