UK: The price of a pint of bitter went up by 5p on February 6 and lager is set to rise by around 11p a pint over the next couple of weeks, The Isle of Man on line said on February 9.

Heron and Brearley joint managing director Grant Paterson said annual increased supplier costs tend to force a rise at this time of the year.

He explained that Coors, which owns Carling, Heron and Brearley's biggest-selling lager, was putting prices up by 5 per cent.

Mr Paterson explained: 'The increases do not all come through together, they are spread over two or three months. We have to react to that.'

These latest increases come just over two months after an across the board rise of 3p a pint to cover a raft of increased overheads, including the controversial waste disposal charges.

With the budget still to come and waste disposal fees to rise to Ј100 per tonne of commercial waste, further increases could follow soon.
