The German brewery Feldschloesschen Brauerei AG is to invest about EUR 7.0 million (US$8.9 million) into a new filling line for beer in PET plastic bottles, the company’s marketing director, Heinz-Dieter Lande, was quoted in the German press as saying on February 16. The move is part of a plan to offset the impact of the controversial deposit system on cans in Germany. The brewer, part of Holsten, saw a 90% fall in beer can sales in 2003. The PET filling line is expected to be running by May.
