USA, NY: Port Jeff Brewing launches Fresh Hop Ale
Brewery news

Port Jeff Brewing has released Fresh Hop Ale, its first beer made with locally grown hops, The Drinks Business Review reported on August, 29.

The Port-Jefferson, New York-based brewery had partnered with Condzella's Farm to obtain the wet, Long Island-grown hops from the farm's first harvest on 10-13 August 2012.

Port Jeff Brewing owner and brewmaster Michael Philbrick said that this release is significant for Long Island as only local ingredients were used.

"Using hops from Long Island brings local to a new level. People are not only supporting beer, but local agriculture, as well," he added.

"You have to use fresh hops right away, when the flower's natural oils and flavors are highest."

The brewer expects to use the recipe with the 2013 harvest from the mature field.
