Belgian brewer, Alken Maes plans to start brewing Carlsberg in Belgium in April this year, according to national media reports. According to sources, the brewer has signed a three-year contract with Carlsberg, which allows it to brew 100,000 hl of Carlsberg annually. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

Alken Maes is part of Scottish & Newcastle since June 2000. It brews Maes, Grimbergen, Cristal, Cinev and Mort Subite beer brands. In 2002, the brewery posted turnover of EUR 144.6 million (US$180.7M).
