USA & India: Department of Justice joins investigation of AB InBev’s Indian affiliates
Brewery news

The Department of Justice has joined the Securities and Exchange Commission in an investigation of Anheuser-Busch InBev's Indian affiliates for possible violations of foreign bribery law, St. Louis Business Journal reported on August, 2.

In March, AB InBev said the SEC was investigating its joint venture InBev India Int'l Private Ltd. to determine whether "certain relationships" between agents and employees were compliant with U.S. laws that bar the use of bribes to foreign officials for business purposes.

"Our investigation into the conduct in question is ongoing, and we are cooperating with the SEC and the DOJ," the company said in its recent earnings statement.

Several U.S. companies’ ventures in India have come under the microscope recently, as the SEC ensures that businesses aren’t turning to unlawful measures in order to skirt the country’s rigid international regulations.
