USA, OH: Eudora Brewing opening another brew-on-premise site in Kettering

Eudora Brewing Company, a new brew-on-premise brewery and tasting room, opens Friday (November 15) in Kettering, a Dayton suburb, Akron Beacon Journal announced on November 14.

Neil Chabut, a 2011 University of Dayton graduate and homebrewer, worked in a homebrew shop for about a year before launching the brewery. His inspiration came from working at the shop.

In addition to The Brew Kettle in Strongsville, Eudora joins other Ohio brew-on-premise sites North High in Columbus, Little Mountain in Mentor and Father John's in Bryan.

While the tasting room is opening this weekend, Chabut said, the brew-on-premise portion of the business won't open yet for a couple of months.

The brewery will launch with five beers: Sundowner, a blonde ale; Boomerang, an American India pale ale; The Bee's Knees, an American pale/amber ale; Mother Fuggle, a hybrid of an English and American brown ale made with Fuggle hops; and Thunderball, an oatmeal stout.

"We'll also have a seasonal beer starting this winter," Chabut said. "I have not decided on the style yet. But that'll be six beers total on tap once we're up and running."

The brewery, about 3,000 square feet, features a three-barrel, all-electric system from Brewmation. Eudora will sell growlers, but there are no plans to distribute to outside accounts right now.

He also noted that the brewery has a charitable component. A portion of every sale is donated to Charity:water. "It's a world renowned charity that funds and completes water projects all over the world, bringing clean water to those in need," Chabut said. "We use a lot of water in the brewing process. It's the least we can do to give back and do our part to help eliminate the water crisis that's taking place around the globe."

Eudora joins an exploding craft brewery scene in Dayton. The area already has seen places such as Yellow Springs, Toxic Brew and Dayton Beer open, with many more planned. For years, Dayton had no craft breweries.

"I'm very excited about the craft beer scene in Dayton," Chabut said. "It's about time we see some breweries pop up around here. I definitely don't view the other breweries as competition. I think we can help each other out and really make the craft beer movement in Dayton a success if we work together. It's a great time to be a craft beer lover in Dayton -- that's for sure."
