Australia, Tasmania: A specialty beer brewed in Tasmania has been declared the world's best amber lager at the World Beer Cup 2004, held in San Diego, California. The brand Cascade Autumn Amber is made at a historic brewery in Hobart, Tasmania, owned by Carlton and United Breweries.

The beer was judged the best from amongst 1500 entries from 40 countries across the world. Cascade head brewer Max Burslem, who has been in the business for more than 30 years, said the awards were fantastic recognition for the company and Australian beers in general. "Autumn Amber is a top fermented drop featuring aromatic Bavarian hop varieties that is best enjoyed with red meat and served at a temperature of about 4 degrees Celsius," The Age quoted him as saying.

Cascade produces about 5,000 cartons and 800 50-litre kegs annually of the brew, although supply is mostly limited to the home country Australia.
