Germany: The Belgian brewing giant Interbrew was reported to be investing about EUR 300 million in a new brewing plant in Munich, Germany, following its purchase of the German brewing group Spaten, under The Financial Times Deutschland report. The plant intends to have an annual capacity of up to 5 million hectolitres. The new brewery is part of a plan by Interbrew to develop exports of the German group's Franziskaner, Lowenbrau and Spaten brands. It is thought that the Beck's brand could also be brewed in Munich for the Italian market, the report said.

In September 2003 Interbrew signed a strategic partnership to combine its German division with Bavaria's leading brewer Gabriel Sedlmayr Spaten-Franziskaner Brдu KGaA (Spaten), creating the largest brewery group in the country.
