Sierra Leone: Foreign brands threaten effective operations of Sierra Leone Brewery Limited

The influx of different foreign brands of beer and stout is presently threatening the effective operations of the Sierra Leone Brewery Limited that is implementing the local content policy by employing thousands of Sierra Leoneans and using local produce in their production process, according to the Trade marketing Manager, Desmond George.

This information was disclosed during the one-day tour organized for pressmen by the Management of SL Brewery on June 19, Awoko reports.

According to him, SL Brewery is dealing with alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages as their responsibility is to ensure their customers receive pleasure, leisure, enjoyment and entertainment as they are now producing soft drinks as a way of being relevant everywhere, but ‘the influx of different foreign brands in the market is affecting our operations’ he recalled.

Explaining the commitments of SL Brewery within the Wellington community and the country as a whole, the Managing Director, Willy Ngana, disclosed that the company is paying all the various taxes for operating in the country, whereas the other people that are importing various brands are not paying any taxes and are not employing any Sierra Leonean to reduce the issue of unemployment.

He added that SL Brewery is committed to the socio-economic development of the country’s economy by employing about 17,000 Sierra Leoneans and just last year, they paid over Le100 billion on taxes to the Government, stating that foreign brands are presently affecting the effective production.
