Canada, ON: Bellwoods Brewery to set up a new production facility over the next year and a half
Brewery news

Bellwoods Brewery on August 6 announced that it will be expanding operations to slake Toronto’s perishing thirst for craft beer. Over the next year and a half, the brewery will set up a new production facility in an old warehouse near the corner of Dupont Street and Dovercourt Road.

The Bellwoods brewpub opened on Ossington Avenue in April 2012 and quickly became a popular neighbourhood haunt—so popular, in fact, that the brewery was forced three times last year to close its bottle shop because it had sold every bottle. To keep up with demand, Bellwoods will be opening a new production brewery and barrel room at 950 Dupont St., which will allow for increased production of barrel-aged beers and greater availability. The original brewpub will remain, but with more tank space freed up, allowing Bellwoods to produce smaller runs of bottle-conditioned suds.

The majority of the new space will be devoted to production, although there will be a restaurant and tasting room on site, as well as small event areas. The building itself will need to be restored before the brewers can move in. On their website, Bellwoods noted that despite their increased capacity, they will remain a “relatively small microbrewery,” although the expansion will create a several new full- and part-time jobs.

If all goes to plan, the new facility will be up and running next summer.
