USA, FL: St. Johns County board approves Ancient City Brewing at the Mile Marker Brewing’s location
Brewery news

The St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Board meeting on May 7 was a victory for beer, St. Augustine Record reported on May 7.

Among the few agenda items for the meeting was a request for a special-use permit by Ancient City Brewing Co. at the same location of former microbrewery Mile Marker Brewing.

In other words, it was a nearly identical business seeking to use the same spot at 3420 Agricultural Center Drive, Saint Augustine for a nearly identical purpose. The board passed the measure 7-0 with little discussion.

“It was a necessity to get a special-use permit,” said co-owner Dylan Rumrell, who was not at the meeting. “We’re just happy to be back as the first brewery in St. Augustine. We’re excited for the opportunity to serve St. Johns County and the rest of country.”

Rumrell was not affiliated with the Mile Marker Company, which closed last year. His partner in the business is Greg Tuttle.

“We brought our own touches to it,” Rumrell said. “We’ll be making sure we serve the best beer possible.”

The new facility is expected to open May 15 with other craft beers. The owners are hoping to receive their brewing license from the federal government in June.
