USA, IA: Cedar Falls brewery plans to expand in Waterloo, Iowa

Once a Wonder Bread bakery in its heyday, now, the Hostess factory in Waterloo sits empty. Perhaps not for much longer. "We love the building," said Dave Morgan, owner of SingleSpeed Brewing in Cedar Falls. "We love the location."

According to a report by KWWL.com on May 21, Morgan is pushing a proposal to expand his operation into the space. He said it seems poetic - because what is beer but liquid bread?

"We want to get beer all the way across the state of Iowa, and hopefully by 2020, across two or three states in the Midwest," Morgan said.

SingleSpeed would eventually add a bottling operation. Morgan estimates that would add about 50-60 jobs in their first year, and eventually, as many as 100.

"The last thing we want to do is move, and then move next year because we've outgrown the space," he said.

"I think we can be a nice piece down there," he continued. "Compliment what they've already done, and what they hope to do in the next few years."

If approved, Morgan said they would be up-and-running within a year.
