USA, CO: New Belgium Brewing to open a small brewery in Denver in the first quarter of 2017
Brewery news

New Belgium Brewing is planting serious stakes in Denver with a satellite brewhouse in the River North neighbourhood, The Denver Post reported on July 22.

The Fort Collins-based company — Colorado's largest independent craft brewery — on July 21 announced plans to open a 10-barrel pilot brewery as part of the $41 million, 100-room The Source Hotel.

The project, expected to open in the first quarter of 2017, will be attached to The Source, an artisan marketplace and food emporium in Fort Collins.

Veteran RiNo Hotel’s developers Mickey and Kyle Zeppelin are leading the project.

New Belgium Brewing's move to experiment on a small scale in Denver dovetails with a couple of currents in the craft beer industry — beer aficionados' insatiable thirst for something different and the pairing of complex, ambitious beer.

"In the craft beer community, beer drinkers are always looking for what's new and what is changing and how brewers are pushing the envelope forward," said New Belgium Brewing’s spokesman Bryan Simpson. "You want to keep up with innovation and constantly imagining new things."

The 2,000-square-foot New Belgium Brewing's brewery will be housed on the RiNo Hotel’s ground floor.

New Belgium Brewing’s officials say they have long considered a Denver location to reach a broader audience, including tourists.
