USA, OR: Great Notion Brewing to open its doors in Portland on the first day of the new year
James Dugan, Andy Miller, and Paul Reiter own Great Notion Brewing, and this summer, they took over the former The Mash Tun Brew Pub space in Portland to open their first brewpub. Now they're poised to officially open January, 1 2016, the Eater PDX reported on December 21.
The Great Notion taproom will serve food and drink, including cocktails and 12 guest taps, but its full line of beers won't kick off until March 5. Until then, you will find "limited samples" of its beers available, likely beginning with its flagship IPA.
When it comes to beer, Great Notion's brews aren't typical. Sure, it makes a stout with chocolate and coffee and hop-forward beers, but it's also aging sour beers in amphora coated with beeswax. Part of the Great Notion Amphora Project, the aging regiment adds a "unique honey-like character," according to the brewery.
