Brazil: Boiler explosion kills two workers, injures three others at Heineken brewery in Sao Paulo state
A boiler explosion at a Heineken beer factory in Brazil on January 26 killed two workers and injured three others, one of them seriously, the company confirmed.
The workers were employed by a subcontractor hired by the factory in Jacarei, in the interior of Sao Paulo state, and at the time of the accident they were performing tests on one of the boilers, Fox News Latino reported.
According to the metalworkers' union of Sao Jose dos Campos, the blast occurred at 9 a.m. and destroyed part of the facility.
The union said that the cause of the accident is still not known and, in a communique, demanded a "rigorous investigation" into the incident.
Heineken, meanwhile, expressed its regret over the accident and said that it is in contact with the subcontractors to offer support to the people affected by the explosion.
In a press release, the company said that the factory has temporarily suspended its production operations.
