USA, AZ: Construction underway on Helio Basin Brewing in Phoenix
Construction is underway on the Helio Basin Brewing Company in Phoenix, with plans for a late-summer debut, azcentral.com reported on March 10.
As a combination of brewery and 135-seat restaurant, the venue will feature a 15-barrel exposition brewing system, crafting six signature beers in primarily American ale style, as well as rotating seasonal and specialty batches.
The 8,200-square-foot project is the work of entrepreneurs Dustin Hazer and Mike Conley. Hazer is the man behind the beer, having brewed professionally for almost a decade, including at Four Peaks in Tempe and, most recently, at one of the largest breweries in the country, Southern Tier Brewing Co. in Lakewood, NY. He also attended Siebel Institute, a Chicago academy that offers international educational programs in professional brewing.
Conley is a former Marine officer and MBA graduate of the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He recently spent time working with several brewery startups.
As for the name, Helio Basin combines helio as a play on the Greek word for sun, while basin refers to a catchall or Valley, in a salute to the Phoenix metro area.
