Canada: Big Rock Brewery income trust reported a more than 40 % increase in its second-quarter profits Tuesday, August 3, pushed by strong sales of its lager beers. The Calgary-based brewer said it earned $2.2 million or 38 cents per unit for the three months ended June 30. That compared with a profit of $1.5 million or 28 cents per unit for the same period a year ago. Gross sales revenue increased to $14.7 million in the quarter, up from $12.5 million in the second quarter of 2003, according to The Canadian Press.

"Strong sales of lager beers, Alberta Genuine Draft, Jack Rabbit, and Honey Brown Lager have contributed to this increase," the brewer said in a statement.

Big Rock is a regional producer and marketer of premium quality beers.
