EU: Germans named Europe’s top beer-consumers when they head out - survey
With the UEFA European Championship tournament now in full swing, fans from all corners of the continent will be sharing the moment with a beer or a soft drink in a bar or restaurant.
Data from NPD Group shows who’s drinking what in Europe’s “big 4” nations — France, Italy, the UK and Germany — when they head out, Malay Mail Online reported on June 21.
Germans, it seems, are quick to get the beers in when out and about. In fact, NPD’s data puts Germany in the lead as Europe’s top beer-consuming country, where each month 27per cent of adults aged 16 and over go to a café, a bistro or a restaurant and order a beer.
Although other nations lead the way when it comes to making this kind of outing, Germans are the most likely to choose a beer.
On average, they make 3.8 visits per month that result in ordering a beer.
The French, on the other hand, drink the least beer, with just 2.3 visits per month that involve ordering a beer.
Among all of the “big 4” nations surveyed, the Italians have the most balanced beer consumption between men and women, with a ratio of 1.5.
Sodas and fruit juices are favored most of all by Brits. Each month, 71per cent of adults order a non-alcoholic drink in a bar, café or restaurant.
British adults also clock up an average five visits per month that involve ordering a soft drink, compared with 3.9 for Germans, 3.7 for the French and 4.4 for Italians.
The figures are taken from NPD Group data valid at the end of March 2016 for the previous 12 months.
