Brazil: Heineken to close down Brasil Kirin’s brewery in Rio Grande do Sul
Heineken has announced the decision to close down the brewery in Gravataí, Rio Grande do Sul, Jornal do Comércio reported on June 1.
The Dutch brewing giant made the announcement on the same day it confirmed the closure of its acquisition of Brasil Kirin.
“The decision to close the production facility in Gravataí was made on the basis of a thorough study of the asset’s viability and due to the necessity of taking the company’s business to the next level of excellence maintaining its economic sustainability,” the company said.
With the acquisition of Brasil Kirin Heineken now owns 16 breweries in Brazil and is the country’s second-largest beer maker with a market share of 20%.
