EU: On November 1, Mrs. Mariann Fischer Boel will replace Mr. Fischler as Commissioner of Agriculture in the EU. Like the President, Mr. Barroso and other cabinet members, she belongs to the liberal, anti-protectionist faction of European politicians, but she will always be bound by majority decisions. Both the structure and the personnel of the department of agriculture will see major changes.
