USA, MI: Wax Wings Brewing Company gets its licence approved
Wax Wings Brewing Company has the city of Kalamazoo's blessing to open a micro brewery, MLive.com reported on September 6.
On September 5, the City Commission adopted a resolution recommending the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs approve a micro brewer license for Wax Wings Brewing Company, LLC. The license would allow owner Robert Hopkins to produce up to 60,000 barrels of beer a year at 3480 Gull Road.
According to a city staff report, the business is estimated to create five jobs at the end of its first year. There are no plans to serve food at the facility.
Hopkins is also applying for a beer tasting permit, outdoor service permit, dance permit and an entertainment permit.
Due to space constraints, he doesn't have the ability to offer these services - except beer tasting. He hopes to eventually offer live music and allow his patrons to be able to dance on the premise.
There are no current plans to have an outdoor service area as space is limited at this time.
Hopkins told city staff that he hopes to partner with the neighboring restaurant Mi Pueblo as well as local food trucks in order to serve the customers of Wax Wings Brewing Company, LLC.
The resolution shows the Michigan Liquor Control Commission that the city of Kalamazoo supports the new license, and will ensure that the business safely serves the public.
