USA, NC: Hendersonville’s Basic Brewery shuts its doors
Basic Brewery on Third Avenue in downtown Hendersonville served its last beer earlier this month, BlueRidgeNow.com reported on September 16.
“After careful thought and consideration we have decided to close our brewery,” reads a sign posted on the front door. Sept. 3 was the business’ last day.
“As many of you know, Rich has continued to work full-time in Greenville (South Carolina), in addition to co-owning our brewery in Hendersonville,” the message continues. “That daily commute and those job responsibilities, along with an ongoing health issue in the family, are the reasons for our decision to close.”
“We are at peace with our decision and very much look forward to our future endeavors. A huge thank you to all those wonderful individuals who supported and really appreciated our nanobrewery and our beers.”
The sign ends with saying the post will be the brewery’s only statement.
Owners Linda and Richard Wenger opened the brewery in March 2016.
The couple said the idea was to be a place where customers could come sample beers from other towns and plan their beer journeys from there, according to previous reporting.
Despite the closure, the craft beer scene in Henderson County continues to grow. Two microbreweries are planned to open in town by the end of this year — Dry Falls Brewing on Kanuga Road and Triskelion Brewing Co. on Seventh Avenue.
