USA, TX: San Antonio to welcome Künstler Brewing on October 27
Brewery news

San Antonio will welcome its newest brewery this weekend, as Künstler Brewing will open its doors on Friday, October 27 for a soft-opening of service, mySanAntonio.com reported.

The spacious brewery, located at 302 E. Lachapelle in the Lone Star Brewery District, is the creation of owners Vera and Brent Deckard, who have been renovating the former warehouse space for more than a year.

“The thought was that we needed a brewery in this part of town,” Vera Deckard, who is also the head brewer, said. “A lot of work went into where we are today.”

Künstler was born out of Deckard’s home in 2013, when her love for making beer turned every nook and cranny of the 1,600-square-foot house into a brewing space. There was even a keg-o-rator in the laundry room.

“My husband said that I either had to go pro with it or tone it down,” Deckard, a German native, said. “There was no way I was going to stop making beer.”

The plan is to offer 10 varieties of beer on tap in a constantly rotating cycle, all priced at $5.50 for a pour. The debut beers include a classic German pilsner called Verklemmt, Sobre Mesa (golden ale), Donkey Lady (brown ale), Ghost Tracks (oatmeal porter), Booberry (milk stout), Hawaiian Fog (IPA) and Sichuan (Belgian), among others.

“Unless you are a super-regular, the goal is to always have something different,” Deckard said.
Künstler also will serve food such as charcuterie, pimento cheese, German potato and kraut salads and classic, oversize soft pretzels. Deckard said there are also plans next month to offer nightly themes, where foods like peel-and-eat shrimp, Frito pies or ahi tuna poke bowls will take center stage.

“Everything goes with the beer,” Deckard said.

Künstler will offer an exclusive “Stammtisch Klub” (German for “regular”) to up to 150 customers. Cost is $200 annually per person or $350 for groups of two, and membership includes exclusive 20-ounce mugs (nonmember pours come in traditional 16-ounce pints) that will be stored in house, a 15 percent discounts off all tickets and invitations to special tastings.

Deckard said that they are working on securing more parking near the brewery, but at the moment, space is somewhat limited. She is encouraging the use of rideshare services and cycling to the brewery this weekend. Customers who can show a receipt from a rideshare service will get 10 percent off their tab.

In addition to Friday service, the brewery will be open from 11 a.m. until midnight Saturday and Sunday.

Künstler Brewing, 302 East Lachapelle, 210-688-4519. Planned hours: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, 4 p.m. to midnight Fridays, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
