USA, CT: Milford's Planning and Zoning Board gives permit to open Milford’s first brewery Tribus Beer Company
Milford's Planning and Zoning Board voted on December 19 in favor of a special permit needed to allow a craft brewery proposal to fully move forward, News 12 Connecticut reported.
It will be the first brewery in Milford and is proposed for 100 Raton Drive, an old industrial site. The area is zoned to allow beer production, but Tribus Beer Company needed an exception permit to build a pub and patio.
Supporters of the project include Milford native and beer enthusiast Brett Broesder, who started a petition in favor of it. More than 500 people have signed the petition. Broesder says Connecticut is in the middle of a craft beer boom resulting in a nearly $569 million economic impact.
Several neighbors have concerns about the pub and patio. They say they're worried about drunken drivers, added traffic on nearby residential roads and noise.
A traffic study estimates the project would not have a significant impact, with an additional 37 cars during the peak evening traffic hour. Tribus says there are no plans for outdoor music or entertainment.
The company says it hopes to start serving beer in about a month.
