India: Carlsberg to start brewing at new Karnataka brewery in about fortnight’s time
Carlsberg, one of world’s leading brewers, will soon begin manufacturing beer at its facility in Nanjangud, state of Karnataka, India, The Hindu reported on January 17.
Ramakrishna Gowda, Joint Director of District Industries Centre (DIC), Mysuru, said Carlsberg has set up its plant on 25 acres in Himmavu by investing about Rs. 60 crore.
Though the plant was reported to have an annual production capacity of 80 million litres per day, Mr. Gowda said the company plans to start production on a small scale.
Sources in Carlsberg said they will begin production in about a fortnight’s time as they had just got license for the brewery. Production will be limited to four different brands in bottles.
The plant is expected to employ about 300 people.
The facility in Nanjangud will be Carlsberg’s 10th plant in India and the third in south India after Chennai and Hyderabad.
