USA, TX: Bear King Brewing planning summer opening in Marble Falls
Many breweries, as small businesses, tend to be family affairs — but perhaps none quite like this one. Bear King Brewing, planning a summer opening in Marble Falls, is the vision of four siblings and their families.
Bear King Brewing, just off Main Street in the town an hour northwest of Austin, will have a 5,500 sq. ft. taproom and restaurant with indoor seating for more than 200 visitors, an outdoor beer garden, patio games and live music. And, of course, it’s aiming to be a family-friendly place.
Siblings JD Guidry, Grant Guidry, Blake Guidry and Jackie Blakely (formerly Guidry) are joining forces to open Bear King, named after “a centuries-old local legend that allegedly lived in the outskirts of Marble Falls,” Grant Guidry said via email.
“His existence was never verified — was it a bear, was it a man? was it half-bear, half-man? Not our call to say — but sharing stories, whether tall tales or utter truth, brings people together,” he said. “We want to be a place where people can get together, tell stories and create legends of their own over a great beer.”
The beer program will launch with three mainstay brews, as well as a variety of seasonals and taproom-only options. Not yet named, the flagship beers are a blonde ale, an American IPA and a porter, according to Guidry. They will each be canned and distributed from the brewery, in addition to being on tap.
Bear King has been in the works for a while. The three brothers and sister (Jackie is the oldest) “dreamed of opening a brewery together” when JD decided to become a professional brewer, Grant Guidry said, and they broke ground on the property, at 207 Avenue G, last year. (Locals might remember the name was formerly Rally Point Brewing.)
Still under construction, Bear King Brewing will join Save the World Brewing as another Marble Falls brewery once it opens later this summer.
