USA, TX: Longtab Brewing to open as Leon Valley’s first combined brewery and coffee shop by year-end
Dave Holland aims to open San Antonio’s first combined brewery and coffee shop in the Leon Valley area before the end of the year. The dual coffee and beer format is a growing industry trend, and Holland cited Austin’s Red Horn Coffee House & Brewing Co. as an influence, mysanantonio.com reported.
“I’m a coffee freak and a beer geek,” Holland said. “I definitely want to be one of the first in San Antonio to offer both.”
Longtab Brewing pays tribute to Holland’s long military career. Holland is a recipient of the U.S. Army Special Forces Tab, aka “Long Tab,” worn by Green Berets. Holland, who currently serves in a Special Forces unit with the National Guard, is months from retiring after 30 years of military service. He’ll be joined by fellow Green Beret Mike Brown as head brewer. Holland’s wife and Longtab co-owner, Natalie Holland, will run front-of-house operations.
Many of Longtab’s brews bear a military-inspired name, such as the OSS Oatmeal Stout, Black Hops IPA and Pineland Oppression Pale Ale. Holland said a portion of the brewery’s profits would be used to support the San Antonio-based Green Beret Foundation, which provides services to the families of wounded and killed Green Berets.
Holland has leased a building in the Alamo Business Park near the intersection of NW Loop 410 and Bandera Road. He plans to begin construction once federal, state and local permits have been granted.
The Hollands are currently raising funds to complete the build out. They recently completed an indiegogo.com campaign that netted more than $22,000, and the sales of Longtab-branded merchandise already is covering the brewery’s rent.
Longtab Brewing will be located at 4700 Timco West, Suite 105.
