USA, VA: Ober Brewing Co. to hold official opening on March 31
Brewery news

A new brewery is opening this weekend amid the Roanoke Valley's burgeoning craft beer scene, the Roanoke Times reported on March 29.

Ober Brewing Co. officially opens its doors Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m. It has been in the works for about a year at a former warehouse property at 1443 Lakeside Circle off of Kessler Mill Road. It's owned and operated by Dave Ober, who studied brewing at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, and his wife, Jennifer Ober. The Obers have installed a 3.5-barrel brewing system in the 3,200-square-foot space. The first four beers on draft are a coffee stout, an American amber ale, an American IPA and a Belgian witbier with some orange zest. More taps will be added over time. Dave Ober plans for the brewery to be a regular spot for live music and food trucks and both will be featured on Saturday.

The brewery will be open 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and, starting next week, it will be open 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and 4 to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Hours are expected to extend in the future, Ober said. This is the third brewery in Salem, joining Olde Salem Brewing Co., which opened in November, and Parkway Brewing Co., which is nearby on Kessler Mill.
