USA, TX: Symbolic Brewing hopes to open in Houston by early 2019
Symbolic Brewing Company, a new German-influenced brewery from a Buffalo Bayou Brewing alum, will open on Houston’s Buffalo Bayou, the Eater Houston reported on July 31.
Caleb Hawkins’ new brewery at 5521 Navigation Boulevard was inspired by his time training at Germany’s renowned VLB Berlin school for brewmasters, which was founded in the 1800s, according to the Houston Business Journal. Hawkins told the publication that Germans emphasize spending time outdoors with family and focus on “crisp, drinkable beers,” something he says is lacking in Houston’s craft beer community.
Hawkins’ family purchased the acreage for his future brewery on the Buffalo Bayou, an interesting coincidence considering the two years he put in brewing for Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company. The property includes multiple buildings that will be renovated to create the brewing facility, tap room, and outdoor beer garden. A photo posted to Symbolic’s Facebook page in June indicates that the construction teams recently met in one of the property’s existing industrial buildings to go over renovation plans.
Hawkins told the Journal that he plans to have his brewing operations open to the public by early 2019.
