Ukraine: Barley shipments at the moment far behind last season’s
Although exports have been on the rise since the start of MY 2018/19, this season’s barley shipments to foreign markets are far behind last year, UkrAgroConsult reported on September 17. So, Ukraine exported 1.36 mln tonnes of barley in July-August 2018/19, or 62.7% less than in the same period last season (almost 2 mln tonnes).
The nation exported 770.5 thousand tonnes of barley in August 2018/19. This is 30.1% more than in the previous month, but 34.7% less than in August 2017/18.
As before, the top importers of Ukrainian barley in the new season are Saudi Arabia and China. These two countries absorbed a combined almost 79% of total barley exports from Ukraine at the time.
At the same time, during the first two months of the current season, Saudi Arabia already imported almost half as much barley as for the whole of MY 2017/18.
