USA, TX: Big Bend Brewing Co. to suspend all business operations
Brewery news

An Alpine-based beer company that had plans to expand into San Antonio has announced that it is suspending all business operations, the San Antonio Express-News reported on December 24.

Big Bend Brewing Co. posted on social media on December 21 that as of Dec. 31, it will shut down, including taproom sales in the original Alpine facility.

The company, which recently celebrated its sixth year of business, posted the following: “Now, due to a combination of unforeseen hurdles in building our San Antonio location and the challenging macroeconomic conditions affecting investment in the craft beer sector, we find ourselves making some tough choices.”

Big Bend was in the process of building a new $3 million production facility in San Antonio at 1310 Cornerway Blvd., near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 410 on the East Side.

The company makes beers with names inspired by the region where it’s brewed, such as National Park (hefeweizen), Terlingua Gold (pale ale) and La Fontera (IPA). Big Bend also brews a line of Mexican-influenced lagers that are canned under the Tejas name.

The announcement also left open the possibility of a comeback at a later date, stating: “We remain hopeful and are working hard to make the stoppage temporary.”
